We were saddened by the op-ed asserting to represent “doctors who care for children in Alberta,” calling for continued “COVID restrictions.” The authors expressed fear of COVID-caused illness in children, and of “mental health and developmental issues” caused by “re-allocation of resources to meet the ‘surge demand’ of COVID hospitalizations.” This suggested misinterpretation of risk, efficacy of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), and emergency management. We call for dropping COVID-19 restrictions so that the health of children and all of society can recover. Read More
